It’s not Halloween unless you have a spooky and fun play list.  Here are some classic Halloween songs that will be appreciated at any party.

  1. The Monster MashBobby “Boris” Pickett.  It’s an oldie but a classic.
  2. ThrillerMichael Jackson. It isn't Halloween until you put this song on.  Michael Jackson had everyone scared when watching this epic music video. Over twenty years later and people still love this song.
  3. Ghost BustersRay Parker.  Not a very scary tune but everyone knows Ghostbusters and the lyrics.  There will be a lot of singing to this song.
  4. I Put A Spell On YouScreamin Jay Hawkins – The lyrics may not be scary, but the way he sings it brings chills down your spine.  A great Halloween choice.
  5. Twilight Zone Theme Song.  Well this isn’t technically a song, it’s a creepy tune and people will appreciate it.  Who doesn’t like the Twilight Zone?

Beer lovers get your taste buds ready for a special fall beer, just in time for Halloween.  Pumpkin spice ale is only available during the fall and the taste is a mix of amber ale and a pumpkin pie. Sound delicious, right? There aren’t many places you could find this beer, but John Harvards Brewery in Long Island specializes in pumpkin spice beer.  To add the cherry on top of the cake, John Harvards puts brown sugar and cinnamon on the rim of the cup to make it taste even more like pumpkin pie.  Though many restaurants or bars might not sell pumpkin spice beer you can buy your own.  Brooklyn Brewery makes, Post Road Pumpkin Ale and order online for Jacks Pumpkin Spice Ale. If you have never tasted pumpkin ale its time you do.  Order now, it’s worth the wait.

Every Halloween there are always those select few costumes everyone wants to be.    Mike Myers, Scream and Harry Potter have been popular costumes of the past and every adult and child had them.  The bustling city streets on Halloween 2009 were filled with guys covered with white face makeup and a painted red smile as they creped around people asking “Why so serious?” Sounds familiar? Of course it could only be from the movie "Black Knight". Who could forget the popular Joker costume of Halloween 2009?  Every guy wanted to be the joker and every guy was.

So what will be Halloween 2010 Favorite Picks?

Rosie's Halloween Roundup

Halloween groupies – Creative, Funny, and Original are hitting the town on October 31st, and as Joonbug knows, being at the right party is essential, but who you go with and what you are wearing is just as important. To help out some of you fearing Halloween’s groupies, we are letting a few of our favorite group costumes out of the trick-or-treat bag.

Insured Successful Single Costume: Erin Esurance

This super saver is fierce and will definitely give you thumbs up for being so original. To pull this off, grab a leather cat-suit and dye your hair hot pink. Just kidding, snag a hot pink wig from a nearby Halloween store, pull out those black jeans and dark V-neck long sleeve black shirt tucked in, and finish it with a classic black belt around your waist. Make sure to memorize the tag line!

Classic Decade Couple: Sonny and Cher

Though this couple may seem over used, not everyone takes it to the level the power couple deserves. Sonny’s costume can include bellbottom pants, in a color resembling an Easter-egg, with an opened color and cuffed sleeves. To make Sonny stand out, make sure to top off the upper lip with an eye-popping mustache. Now, Cher - an entirely different animal. To be this goddess on Halloween, stick to sequins. If it looks like too much, it’s not. Make sure to stick to her classic long, dark hair and hard across the brow bangs to complete the Classic Couple look.

Three’s Company: Sex, Drugs, and Rock’N Roll

With one person sporting each scandalous title, you are sure to have an exciting night. When promoting yourself as Sex, illustrate the idea and safe sex all at once. Invade a free clinic at one of the local colleges and take condoms for your costume. Keep the wrappers on! – but pin them, glue them, bedazzle them to any surface you are using to cover your body. A great way to use them is by taking a few bobby pins and using them as a hair piece.

Being drugs becomes a personal choice because you decide one of two things – are you becoming a drug, or becoming your imagination of someone who is using drugs. Suggestions: 1) If cocaine is your drug of choice, wear all black and apply loose confectioners sugar all over yourself giving you that powdery look. To accessorize, fill a little baggy of sugar and punch a hole through the top, stringing a chain through the hole and hang it around your neck. 2) If being a person on drugs is your interpretation, utilize black mascara and eyeliner, gray eye shadows and pale lip sticks. Create dark circles and fill the creases of your eyes with light gray shadow to make the eyes bulge. Taking on the honor of Rock’N Roll can go many ways. This person can indulge in any era of the rock era they feel necessary to express. Whether they take the route of Bon Jovi and sport an 80’s getup, or Kurt Cobain and follow the grunge, they will surly complete the threesome with creativity.

A popular costume for this year's Halloween will no doubt be Jersey Shore themed get-ups and if you want to dress the part, your hair better match the look. Men - it's easy enough for you; all you require is tons of gels, functional fingers to spike your hair and a mirror to make sure you look like a big enough tool. Ladies - sorry - but it's a little more complicated for you. You're going to need an expert on making that poof high enough on your head or a Bump-it. Volume and height is everything. Don't worry about the overdosing on hairspray or other hair products: no one should be touching a Jersey girl's hair anyway.

Why Gaga?

Why is everyone going gaga over Lady Gaga costumes this year's Halloween? Not only is that a stupid question, but it has a simple answer: Gaga's fashion has such a range that people who dress up as her can reflect their own personality as well. Just as it was addressed on the Lady Gaga themed episode this season of Glee, all Gaga inspired outfits are original, expressive and individual as the people who wear them. You can always purchase your own Lady Gaga outfit, but making your own will definitely be worth the time and money. You're also less likely to run into a Gaga with the same outfit as you!

Green and Slimy:  Bayou Slime

Halloween's the time to party!  With drastic costumes and heavy make-up, no wonder it's the perfect theme for a celebration.  You can break out of your everyday life and become someone completely different for a night.  But that's not it.  If you're planning a Halloween party, why not dress up your drinks a bit to add to the fun?

If you want something not as appealing but certainly slimy, try making the Bayou Slime.  It's similar to the Pink Lady but instead of gin, rum is used.  The slimy effect is due to the egg white and the moss is simply bits of mint.

You'll need 6-8 fresh mint leaves, 2 parts Cruzan Dark Rum, ½ part Fee Brothers Spiced Cordial Syrup, and 1 egg white.  First, muddle the mint leaves into the syrup.  Make sure the mint leaves are crushed.  Then, pour all ingredients and ice into a shaker and shake until it becomes frothy.  With a chilled martini glass, strain all the contents and lastly garnish with any additional mint leaves you have left.

Experience the Dracula's Kiss

Looking for the perfect cocktail to make that has the haunting colors of red and black?  Search no further!  Dracula's Kiss is the one for you.  With its hypnotizing appearance, this is one cocktail everyone will be looking forward to.

Dracula's Kiss requires 1 ounce of black cherry vodka, ½ ounce of grenadine, cola, and maraschino cherries.  Using a highball glass, cover the bottom with grenadine.  Add ice and the black cherry vodka.  Afterwards fill the rest with cola and garnish with the cherries.  Hope everyone gets to experience the sweetness of the Dracula's Kiss.

A Halloween Necessity:  Jack-O-Lantern

Want a pumpkin-looking cocktail, but not exactly the taste of pumpkin in the drink?  Joonbug's got you covered.  The Jack-O-Lantern is perfect with a mix of cognac and orange flavor.

Here are the ingredients you'll need:  1 ounce of Hennessay VSOP Cognac, 1½ ounce of orange juice, ½ ounce of ginger ale, ½ ounce of Grand Marnier, and an orange wheel with a lime twist to give the pumpkin effect.  After you have gathered everything, combine all in a shaker.  Using a lowball glass with ice; strain all contents of the shaker.  Then, with the orange wheel, poke the lime twist into the middle.  Lastly, on the surface of the cocktail, let the orange wheel float.  Now your finished concoction should look like a pumpkin.  Enjoy!

Hoard the Halloween Closets of NYC

“What happens in costume stays in costume,” Ricky’s NYC says. I completely agree. When you put on what you think is the best costume ever, and combine it with several alcohol-induced beverages—forget about it. You are now the sexiest thing walking around the streets. Fangs meet fishnets, and blood is dripping on bodies. It’s a night where fantasy mixes with reality—imaginations are definitely running wild. Choose your costume this year with the top picks in shops around the city.

1. Frankie Steinz
24 Harrison Street
(between Hudson Street & Greenwich Street)
(212) 925-1373
By Appointment Only

This is my top pick for costume shops in the city. Design your own costumes with the eclectically-crazy help of Ms. Steinz herself. Her interactive website screams creativity with a dog jumping around the page and baby heads lying on the floor. Get your free quote today! You better hurry, she usually takes orders months in advance, but she does do rush orders! Order from her eBay store or choose from a wide selection of rentals. Partner up and be Cruella De Vil and a Dalmatian, or a Stove and Refrigerator. Go as a group: how about a Fruit Salad or a group of Killer Bees? You will not be dissatisfied with your costume—stars like Dolly Parton, Diana Ross, and Bill Cosby wear her outrageous designs.

2. New York Costumes
104 Fourth Avenue
(at 11th Street)
1-800-99JUMPY

Marked as New York’s biggest Halloween store, New York Costumes can pretty much guarantee you anything you are looking for. If not, special order or rent it. Don’t be overwhelmed with their website—they just want you to have endless options. After all, we can never decide if we want to be a Squawk Walker or a Winter Willie, right? What about being Amish? No problem. How about Johnny Depp? They have one kick-ass wig perfect for your pirate fantasy! Or be bad-ass, and accessorize with an armor shield and sword. Even make your pooch the most desired dog on the block—I personally enjoy the sexy School Puppy costume and the Muscle Bound Hound. Check out their website for more ideas on costumes, accessories, and decorations for your Halloween fun.

3. Masquerade Times Square Costume Shop
311 West 43rd Street
(between 8th and 9th Avenues)
(212) 247-0104

Head over to Times Square, the Mecca for everything obnoxious. Masquerade Costume Shop says they proudly “cater to Theater District regulars, local midtown denizens, party-goers from all over, and visitors from abroad and beyond.” They have your usual costumes, props, make-up, and masks—but customized fangs? How cool is that? They make them while you wait, but it’s by appointment only, so schedule now! Starting at $150 a set, anyone can take part in the sexy vampire phenomenon sweeping the nation. Thanks Mr. Pattinson! If you’re strapped on cash, DIY! They have a tab where you print a mask, cut it out, and add elastic. Become a political figure, a clown, or Jedi. See the wide variety of everything Halloween on their website.

4. Ricky’s NYC
375 Broadway
(between Franklin and White Streets)
(212) 925-5490

This year-round costume shop is located in Tribeca and has 17 temporary stores all over Manhattan for the Halloween season. Choose from thousands of costumes—adults, kids, babies, naughty, nice, pets, and even mommy-to-be! Ricky’s is known as having the “hottest, craziest, and funkiest costumes” in the city. They expect this year’s hottest sellers to be Kate Gosselin and Michelle Obama wigs, and a Bernie Madoff costume, which includes a mask and prison jumpsuit. I think the four pages of Michael Jackson items are guaranteed to be a hit. Celebrating their 20-year anniversary, Ricky’s knows how to do Halloween. Join in on their online countdown dedicated to a night of dress up, drinks, and dancing.

5. Creative Costume Company
242 W. 36th Street 8th floor
(212) 564-5552

Can’t find exactly what you’re looking for? Don’t freak out! Creative Costume Company will make it for you. Just give them your size, idea, and theme, and they will sketch up your costume and make it for you. Check out a sample from sketch to garment. You can also rent. If it doesn’t fit perfectly, they will alter it for you at no additional charge. The rental fees range from $50-$250, with a $200 deposit fee. Plus, you get to keep it for 48 hours—make your Halloween last longer! Now you can be the sports star, superstar, superhero, or sexy something all weekend!
